3 Key Lessons About Life I Learned From a 17 Year Old Author

It’s a beautiful day to be alive.

If you’re on my friend list on Facebook, you might have read the story I wrote about the 17-year-old author, Kalu.

Click here to read the story.

So, I thought I should share some business and life lessons I’ve learned from him.

Don’t blame me. As a writer, there’s always something to learn from every situation in life.

So, I will quickly share with you 3 key things you can learn about life and business from this young author.

1. You’re not too young or old to pursue your dreams.

Despite your age right now, whether you’re 18 or 80, you’re not too young or old to pursue your dreams and do what makes you happy and ultimately blesses humanity.

AT age 17, Kalu didn’t think he was too young to publish his thought.

In fact, I’ve heard of an author of about 6 years old.

Are you still wondering what you should do with your precious life?

Start something. Make mistakes. Face your fear. Live your best life now.

2. Be shameless

Kalu was shameless about his dream of publishing his book. Hence, he told me about it without a care if I will like his idea or not?

Be shameless in pursuing your dreams. Yes, even in promoting your business. If you don’t talk about your business or idea who will.

They say that the world will give way to any man who knows where he’s going to.

When you understand how important your success is to others, you will start being shameless.

You will stop asking “what if”? and start saying, “so what?”

You will chase after your dreams like your entirely life depended on it. Which actually does.

People will always have an “honest opinion” about you.

You’re either too slim or too fat. A lot of people will tell you that you don’t deserve it.

But you have to be shameless.

In fact, what is shyness?

Is it the name of a person, animal, place or thing?

3. Be Persistent

At  point I wasn’t quick in responding to his messages.

I was busy and somehow I thought he was disburbing.

Well, whether I was feeling disturbed or whatever, this young man persisted.

He kept following up with his last message with me.

Sometimes, people will not know how serious you are about a thing until they see your persistence.

If a thing is important to you, you will persist until you get it.

Calvin Coolidge said, “Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”

Yes, you’re talented. Yes, you’re hardworking and all of that but how long are you willing to put in the work?

No matter long it takes, persistence will always win as long as you’re doing the right thing.

One more thing, understand the power of follow up.

When you send someone a message, especially if that person is a busy person that a lot of people look up to, learn to follow up.

Don’t shoot him/her a message once and assume that he’s ignoring you because he didn’t reply.

Follow up once, twice or thrice depending on how important his response is to you.

After posting about Kalu’s new book, it has received lots of feedback from people.

I got persons offering to get him published on major international bookstores like Amazon, Barnes and Noble and others.

That’s what happens when you decide to live your dreams.

I’m so proud of him that I had to make a post about him.

I’d go farther than this If I knew what that young man knows at his age.

Let’s take a moment again to congratulate Kalu.

  1. Hey Promise!

Very inspiring story and blog post!

I agree with everything here, especially on being shameless and persistent.

Being shameless about going after your dreams in life is something I’ve recently learned. It is something you have to work on. This comes from confidence. You have to be super confidence in yourself and your path to success to the point you seem very shameless, right. Be shameless in a healthy way! 🙂

    Thanks for sharing this man!

    Cheers! 😀
